Yesterday after work I met up with a friend at Fish to try out the new $4 bar menu and I am oh-so-glad I did.

Let me paint the picture: After settling in at the purple heart bar (at a comfy barstool with a back- that’s key for this girl) I order my signature Sapporo and my friend grabbed a Yeungling. Delicious beverages in frosty glasses, we’re a pair of happy campers. Then the lovely bartender, Martha, gives us the run down on the $4 bar menu offered only on Mondays and says we have to, have to, have to try the duck sliders. Twist my arm, put us in for a pair (two in each order) and the BBQ pork wonton nachos that are covered with – get this – fondue. FONDUE!

I hadn’t had more than 4 sips of my drink when the food arrives – super speedy – and it is unbelievable. We stuffed our faces with the sliders, the nachos and then we ordered fries covered in truffle oil and parmesan cheese to top it off. Bar food heaven. And they were only $4 each! The best part was that our bill was under $20 for both of us put together and we were stuffed. It was the happiest little happy hour I’ve had in a long, long time.

Check it out – every Monday at Fish from 5:30 – 8:00 pm with Martha at your service.

Nico is apparently changing lives with his knowledge and appreciation for cheese! Check out the Blue Moon Events blog for a testimonial on their gratitude to Nico for introducing them to boucheron.

“Boucheron (aka disc of heaven) is a briefly aged goat’s milk cheese from France’s Loire Valley with an accommodatingly mild flavor and interesting texture. It belongs to the family of “soft-ripened” or “bloomy-rind” cheeses, along with more well known Brie, Munster, Livarot, etc. Accordingly, Boucheron has that “Brie-like” rind and the paste (the interior of the cheese) near the rind is similar to Brie in appearance and flavor. Because a soft-ripened cheese ages from the outside towards the center, the middle of a disk of Boucheron is much firmer and drier than the edges and more closely resembles a fresh chèvre. Chef Nico Romo from Patrick Properties introduced it to us; we’ve never been the same.”

Not only earning mentions as connoisseurs of fine cheese, Fish is also making the news for our incredible happy hour and cocktail selections. Pick up a copy of the Post & Courier Preview to see an article on the top happy hour spots in town, with Fish at the top of the list! We’ve got $2.50 beers, $3.50 liquors plus wine and cocktail specials and $1 dim sum. All the happy hour you can handle for under $10.

If you’re into happy hour (and who isn’t?) then I highly recommend you try Evan’s new Oolong Express that has just been added to the cocktail list. It’s perfectly sweet and dangerously delicious. He is also working on a few combinations for the upcoming Wine + Food Festival cocktail competition as well as the Charleston Fashion Week Next Top Cocktail competition. Ask him for a taste of the Glamour Goose or the Distinguished Gentleman and then vote for his concoctions here. We know he’s the best mixologist in town, but he’ll need your votes to beat out the other 29 local bartenders participating. Good luck Evan!

So much going on, Internet, where to begin? Okay, Team Goldman is back stateside after a two week jaunt across Paris, Florence, Dubrovnik and other as yet unnamed locales. I’m headed out of town tommorrow for a visit to the parental units, and the whole city is abuzz with all things Spoletian. It’s a lot to handle, but I know you can do it.

Should you be out and about this evening, our favorite chanteuse Elise Testone is back in the house at Fish. In case you hadn’t heard, she opened for Snoop Dogg last week. Yes. Really! Stop by, have a delicious Happy Hour cocktail and ask Elise to regale with you tour bus tales! (Nothing scandalous, people. This is a family blog.)

In fun and interesting marketing news, I must borrow from Maggie at MightyGirl. As you know, we here at Team PP get to be on the inside of tons of lovely weddings. We also get the pleasure of seeing quite a bit of fantastic photography. But, what I have personally NOT seen is a wedding video quite like this. I say: do away with all other forms of wedding video and simply choose a fantastic song. (You can’t really go wrong with Freddie Mercury, can you?)

Now, before I head out, I do promise to write a post from the Buckeye state. It may even be deep-fried, you never can tell. Until then, keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars. (Please comment if you know from whence that quote springs.)
