Linus had his blanket. Ernie had a rubber ducky. Hemingway had six-toed cats (and scotch).
I thought of all of these things this afternoon as I sought inspiration from my favorite office toy: my boxing nun puppet.
I received the boxing nun puppet (AKA Our Lady of the Perpetual Right Cross) as a gift from a former boss who spent his formative years in Catholic school (where the nuns did not wear gloves).
Visitors to PP HQ who see the nun always get a kick out of her. And I, being ever the gracious hostess, offer to show them the sister’s upper cut. It’s quite fierce.
Truth be told, the sister has helped me immeasurably over the years. She even helped me get a job. Seriously, I used her in a cover letter and as luck would have it, my very funny, Catholic school survivor former boss was curious enough about me to invite me in for an interview. The rest is history.
And, when I’m feeling blue or less than inspired, this feisty little nun reminds me not to take it all so seriously. No matter how hectic the deadline, no matter how overwhelming the task at hand may seem, this sassy sister is steadfast, dukes up, with a smile and ready to kick butt. And for the record, yes, I may have used her to “playfully” tap the occasional Executive Chef.

Inspiration
