Thanksgiving dinner at home

Hi friends! I’m back in the land of the internet after a much needed weekend getaway. My brother was recently married in a small private ceremony and so I made the trip back home to Louisville, KY to attend the wedding reception with the whole family over the weekend. There were many high points of the trip, mostly the general comforts of being at home. The familiar sites, smells, foods, people, traditions. We  decorated the Christmas tree and ate an early Thanksgiving dinner that was out of this world.

High on the list memorable moments was dancing with my three sisters and normally reserved mom to the Black Eyed Peas, laughing hysterically and jumping around like three year olds at the reception. It was one of those special happy moments that you know you’ll never forget. It made me especially happy to know that I work with a company that has a hand in creating these moments for couples and their family and friends. Warm fuzzies.

Randomly, I saw Hank Aaron in Louisville. The Hank Aaron. I’m not a big sports gal, but I knew enough about who he was to be impressed by his presence. I had spent the afternoon exploring the Louisville Slugger Museum with my other half, which was especially fascinating because there was an auction happening the following day so there was one-of-a-kind baseball memorabilia on display throughout the museum. Red Sox jerseys, bats signed by Babe Ruth, really cool stuff. Our guide through the factory told us that Hammerin’ Hank was receiving an award that night and would be in town, but we’d be long gone from the facility by then.

We strolled through downtown Louisville that evening, ending our site-seeing tour in the 21C Museum Hotel (recently voted #1 Hotel by Conde Nast) for a cocktail and a quick look at the new art in the museum. Weaving through the exhibits and paying more attention to the art on the walls than where we were going, we almost ran smack into Mr. Aaron. We were too shy to say hello when we realized who he was, and his ‘handlers’ weren’t too keen on people asking for autographs, so we quietly observed and offered our silent respects to the baseball legend before heading home.

So now I’m back in the office after the delightful dancing, comfort food eating and random celebrity encounters feeling energized and well rested. It is always a little overwhelming checking your inbox after a 4 day weekend, but I was glad to see a message from friend Calder Clark at Blue Moon Events when I got in this morning. Apparently one of the weddings she designed at the William Aiken House was featured in B Weddings Magazine, which is published in Dublin, Ireland. Look out Charleston, we’re going international! Just kidding, but it’s really good to know that one of our properties has been recognized for its chic style in a different country. Check out the Blue Moon blog for more photos and info on the magazine feature.
